Symbolising the synergy between the disability and the corporate sectors, the disability-friendly corporate logo will be awarded to companies that have policies and infrastructure conducive for the employment of persons with disabilities.
The disability-friendly logo corporate symbolises the synergy between the disability and the corporate sectors. It tells us: Disabled persons are not alone; they, too, can lead lives of dignity. And this can only happen when corporates reach out to persons with disabilities.
This logo, concieved in 1999, symbolises partnerships between responsible corporate citizens and talented people with disabilities. It will be awarded to disability-friendly companies for their use. Over time, we are confident that it will become an instantly recognisable sign of a company that cares.
The disabled friendly company was a rare entity just a few years ago. Companies were under the impression that hiring persons with disabilities was enough. However, in the last few years, there has been a transformation in the Indian corporate world vis a vis disability. There is a greater awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and hence towards hiring them.
What the logo represents
The handshake represents equality. Corporate citizens, on their part, need to develop hiring policies that are not discriminatory towards disabled people, providing a work environment that is accessible, and recognising the abilities of persons who have a disability. On the other hand, persons with disabilities bring to the partnership talent, high work ethics and inner strength.
The backdrop of the logo are the Yin and Yang which symbolise the balance between
opposite forces of life. In the context of disability, it also signifies flexible
viewpoints with regard to various disabilities and corporate cultures.
Blue and yellow are the international colours representing disability.
The disability friendly logo, thus, is an endorsement and acceptance of the fact that the particular corporate has ensured a disabled friendly, accessible environment leading to equal employment opportunities.
How it is awarded
The corporate bearing this logo would be easily identifiable as having evolved an established degree of either accessibility, inclusion or employment (direct and indirect) in any sphere of its activities. Specifically, it can be awarded if:
Displaying the logo
The certified organisation would be allowed to display this logo at all of its workplaces (manufacturing units, offices, branch offices, showrooms, retail outlets), in its product packages and official stationery.
Validity of certification
Certification will be valid for five years. Eligibility criteria will be reviewed and changed after a period of five years, as awareness of disability improves.
N.C.P.E.D.P. will have the absolute authority to randomly audit the organisation bearing this logo, to ensure that criteria are met at all times.
