Dr. Armaity S. Desai: Granting lifelines
Social
work, and both, concern and action in the field of education, is what Mumbai-based
67-year-old Dr. Armaity S. Desai, Member, Review Committee, Civil Services Recruitment
Procedure and Examinations, has done most her life.
The year was 1998; two pathbreaking schemes were announced by Armaity, the then Chairperson of the University Grants Commission (U.G.C.):
These two landmark schemes are enough to make sure that Armaity's name remains in the annals of disability history forever. Indeed, her career has been long and chequered, devoted almost entirely to social work, development and school level as well as higher education.
Education is considered one of the lifelines that a disabled person requires to go forward in life. To Armaity, then, goes the credit of equipping disabled people with a tool, the opportunity that allows them to look for rainbows, and, it follows, the proverbial pot of gold.
