Ramesh Mohan Gupta: Breaking the barriers

Ramesh goes into the heart of the matter. He tackles the problem at the roots. He has chosen to work with hearing impaired people, offering his services free. Realising the need to build confidence, and convinced that earning one's own livelihood is the best means of generating it, Ramesh has opened new avenues of employment for people with hearing impairment.

Not content with making recommendations, Ramesh has, on many occasions, accompanied the job seeker. This is because Ramesh is sure that his presence will do the trick. Is it really all that simple? Perhaps not. When the doors for formal education were closed in his face, Ramesh decided to become his own teacher. He studied Hindi and English and can now communicate in both languages effectively. Today there are scores of people who look up to him for employment, largely in the private sector.

Recently Ramesh has introduced several hearing impaired women in the beauty and cosmetics services. He interacts extensively with employers, creating confidence in them that the disabled person can perform just as well as any other person.

He also helps hearing impaired people to deal with issues of adjustment and training.

Vice President of the Delhi Association of the Deaf, he is also the Vice Chairman of the All India Sports Council of the Deaf. Ramesh has, without intending to be, become a role model in the practical application of social concerns.
