Niseeth P. Mehta: Sense and sensitivity

Microsign Products began by employing only two disabled people. What initially started as an experiment almost a decade ago has proved so successful that the company under the leadership of Nisheeth, now has a conscious plan to give job opportunities to still more persons with disabilities.

"I closely observed many disabled persons being imparted training in various private and governmental institutions, but after that job placement was a big problem," notes Nisheeth. Living a life of social security remained a distant dream for them especially in Bhavnagar. They were not to be looked down upon. That was out of question. The idea was that they must earn, become self-reliant and live with dignity."

And now there are 27 persons with disabilities (out of a total workforce of 54) leading a productive and fruitful life at Microsign Products. But has employing disabled people proved to be a handicap in any way? The answer is in the negative - on the contrary, Nisheeth states that he is overwhelmed by the productivity levels of his disabled workers. He appreciates their “unwavering attention, speed and sincerity.”

Special attention is paid at the time of selection and during the initial training. Employees with varied disabilities are encouraged to try different jobs/machines.
