Dr Bhushan Punani: Man with a vision

Let's have it in his words. Says Bhushan, in all sincerity: "The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (P.G.D.M.) ensures a very lucrative career in the corporate world. I, however, wanted to utilise my skills for the betterment of my fellow beings and help in the development of my country in my own small way.

His skills are now being used in the best possible way – as Executive director, Blind People's Association (B.P.A.), Bhushan has made a considerable difference in the lives of people with disabilities. B.P.A., based in Ahmedabad, is considered one of India's leading disability development organisations. It is not just restricted to the visually impaired.

Bhushan oversees the administrative work; he is also equally involved in promoting innovative ideas and concepts. His vision extends to rehabilitation and education; the empowerment of both, the community and the individual; and financial
management.

Under his able guidance, B.P.A. is also now known for its Initiatives in equipping disable people with skills that will help them find employment on their own terms. It offers professional training programmes as well as on-the-job training. Its activities also include rehabilitation services and community-based projects. Its Shree Rangavdhoot Employment and Placement Cell comprises three placement officers. Unemployed disabled persons are registered here, and approximately 150 people get meaningful employment (or even self-employment) each year. But then they have the right man to manage things.
