Design manual for barrier-free environment

This innovative kerb cut in Singapore shows the strides made in accessible design in other Asian countries. This publication was unofficially reprinted and distributed as part of a DPI-Asia/Pacific 18th Regional Leadership Training Seminar. The theme of the seminar, organised from November 15-19, 2000, in Vientianne, Lao PDR, was ‘Barrier-free movement of Persons With Disabilities in Asia/Pacific Region: Towards the 21st century’.

This design manual was published in response to the Regional Council’s Post Decade Proposal on Asia-Pacific Movement of Freedom from Barriers, 2003-2013. It is a reference document for Rule # 5 “Accessibility” of U.N. Standard Rules on the Equalisation of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities and Agenda for Action of Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons.
